Thoughts:
From Houston, this is a trip for a 3 day weekend. It is approximately 5.5 to 6 hours including a couple of gas/restroom stops. The drive isn’t bad, just rather long.
Since this is a Corp of Engineers Park, there are no amenities like cable or WiFi. There is an office, but not a camp store. The park is well laid out and in most areas the roads are wide and easy to navigate. There is one area along the B loop lakefront sites that is rather tight between two trees, but very doable. Some sites are more heavily wooded than others. There are bath houses throughout the park and they are clean and well maintained.
For satellite dish users, we were not able to pick up any satellites. I think success will vary by site. We were in site B-5.
What to do once you get there:
Relax and enjoy the view! The positioning of the campground on the banks of the lake make for a fantastic view and spectacular sunsets!
After, the kids get tired of the scenery, the park has a swimming area, basketball court, volleyball court, a well equipped playground and a couple of walking trails. They also have a boat ramp for anyone bringing a boat. I’ve read the fishing is good, although we didn’t try it out.
We enjoyed our stay at the park and plan on returning in the future.
Tips:
For GPS purposes, use 865 Rocky Point Park Road, Queen City, TX. The address shown for the park on GPS doesn’t take you to the Campground.
There are 9 sites in Rocky Point with 50 amp and a sewer connection B-5 and B-7 are closest to the lake. B-16, B-17, B-18 and B-20 are located more in the center of the B Loop. D-16, D-26 and D-27 are located near the playground.
When accessing sites B-5 and B-7, follow the map as the office states, but when you come to the boat ramp, stay to the right and closest to the bathhouse. It will actually look like you are cutting through a small parking lot. (Thanks for the tip Scott and Trixie!)
For those who don’t require a sewer connection, there are quite a few more choices for sites. Also, there is a dump station in the park.
