*UPDATE September 2016*
For this visit we stayed in a pull-thru site 28. We liked this site because there is a day use parking lot between our site and the sand dunes, so you always have some view of the gulf. We also like the convenience of hooking up our tow vehicle while still in our site.
Just like with our last visit, this park doesn’t disappoint! The area is very clean and well kept. The beach is nice and wide and easily accessible using the boardwalk.
Things to do:
This trip we decided to take the Ferry over to Bolivar Penisula. The weather was pleasant and we saw quite a few porpoise during the trip. If you have never done it, it is a nice ride and something different to do. There is no charge for the ferry.
We stopped for lunch at Benno’s Cajun Seafood on Seawall Blvd. Great place for casual dining. Food is always good.
And of course, we walked on the beach. The weather was still a little warm and very humid, but listening to the waves and walking on the sand is always a favorite.
October 2015 Post:
What is the draw to Dellanera? That’s easy! THE BEACH, THE BEACH, THE BEACH! There are two well-maintained boardwalks that allow beach access. Just think… no wet towels, no sand and no tired kids in the car at the end of the day! There is even an outdoor shower near the end of the boardwalk to rinse off before going back to your RV. For the beach side sites, the sites are angled to allow views of the water from the windows of the motor home. The beaches are clean and wide.
The roads are paved and wide for easy driving, even if you are towing a car. Each of the sites has a concrete pad for your RV, a concrete patio with picnic table, a grill and an extra parking space for your vehicle.
For satellite dish users, we had no problems picking up all three Dish Network Satellites.
The park is located outside of the traffic congested part of Seawell Blvd, but only about a 10 minute drive from restaurants.
Dellanera does have day parking with beach access for those who don’t wish to stay the night. There are outdoor showers to rinse off some of the sand, a shaded playground area and Park store.
There are no online reservations, but the staff was friendly and helpful on the phone as well as at check-in.
What to do once you get there:
There’s never a shortage of things to do in Galveston. The beach is the first obvious choice, but there is the Strand which hosts a variety of events throughout the year. The Pleasure Pier for the young and young at heart. The Island has plenty of good restaurants, and even historical sites and events. The Galveston Historic Tours site offers a variety of tours that change monthly (Galveston Historic Tours).
NOTE: For those of you who haven’t visited Galveston lately, there is a huge beach expansion project going on and the beaches are much wider and easier to visit even along the Seawall than they have been in the past!
