Things Will Happen, Stuff Gets Broken

No matter how hard we try and prepare, we always have something shift or bang on the first turn we make. It’s almost become a running joke to see who can guess what that noise was. We have had a stack of Corelle dinner plates come flying out of a cabinet (they aren’t completely unbreakable, but we only lost one in the incident and traumatized poor Olive!). A coffee maker, even with rubber feet, will not stay on a counter in an abrupt stop (while not aerodynamic, they can fly about 20 feet…). Either the bedroom door or the bathroom door will fail to be latched and shut with a bang. The pot lids always shift slightly and bang on each other.
All of these do happen and will happen, no matter how hard you try to avoid them. It is always a good idea to remove everything possible from the counter tops (Don’t forget the bathrooms too!) Bottles of hand soap ride in the sink. Try to avoid placing heavy things (like plates) in an overhead cabinet. The weight of the stack can knock the cabinet door open. We remedied this problem problem with the DINNER PLATE CRADLE. Works great and actually takes up less space in the cabinet.
Pot and pot lids are another tough storage problem. They don’t stack in each other well. We picked up this Rubbermaid Pan Organizer Rack, Black and stand it upright. We put the skillets, small pots and lids in it.
Because you can’t always predict what will move around, our small dogs ride in their kennels. Children are required to be seated and we minimize people moving around as much as possible.
