Thoughts:
We made this trip as part of a longer trip (See Thanksgiving in the Desert under Longer Adventures).
We have always been impressed with KOA parks and this one is no exception. The park is well kept and easy to navigate. Upon check-in, the staff was friendly. We were escorted to our site (a service we always appreciate). They also sell propane for both travel trailers and motorhomes. The camp store was well-stocked for basic camping supplies and souvenirs.
The park has a playground and two dog parks to keep all members of the family happy. There is also a pool, but it was closed for the season.
On this trip, we opted to use our satellite and had no problems with finding all the satellites. It should be noted that the winds can be unpredicteable and our dish did blow off the table, so it would be best to place it on the ground.
What to do once you get there:
There are tons of options for things to do in the Carlsbad area.. The RV Park is centrally located to allow for easy day trips to a variety of activities. During our visit, we spent a day in Roswell, a day in at Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park and a day at Sitting Bull Falls in Lincoln National Forest.
Tips:
New Mexico winds can kick up unexpectedly, so don’t leave your awning out when you leave your RV.
