Thoughts:
Camp Gulf is the only RV Park that we have found that is truly beach front. From the site that we chose, you are literally about 10 steps to the beach.
As for the Camp Gulf Park, it is great. The park is very well maintained and clean. At check-in, you are led to your site and a staff member helps you get parked. The bath houses are cleaned frequently and numerous. The laundry area is air conditioned and the staff checks the condition of the building often. There a quite a few machines, so availability is pretty good.
There are a couple of pools and a water slide was being installed when we visited. There is a basketball court and activity center with pool tables. They have a gift shop and a camp store. The park rents golf carts, beach carts, pedal carts and Yolo boards.
We love coming to this park and will continue to visit, but be prepared because the great views and amenities come at a higher price than most RVers are accustomed to paying. The beach front sites during the summer are currently priced at $199 per night. Still a much better value than a lot of beach front hotels and you get to sleep in your own bed! Other sites in the park are lower in price and you still get the amenities of the park and the beach (within a short walk).
For satellite dish users, we didn’t hook up our dish on the trip. The park cable is good, so we went that route.
What to do once you get there:
Well, it’s Destin…The beaches are fabulous and the water is clear. During our stay, there was an algae bloom occurring in the water (some days worse than others). We still swam and had a great time. We previously visited in August and that wasn’t an issue at all, so not sure if it is a matter of the time of year or the luck of the draw. While we were relaxing on the beach, we did see dolphins swimming around with some people on Yolo Boards. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen because you will spend a lot of time on the beach and a sunburn can sneak up on you.
There is shopping and restaurants near the park. The only store we visited was the grocery store to pick up some additional items, but I’m sure there are other things to do in the area.
Tips: Be sure to pick up all your belongings from the beach every night. The county comes through in the evenings and collects any trash and other items left on the beach.
The website says to use 10005 Emerald Coast Parkway, MIRAMAR Beach Fl in your GPS. If you use Destin, it will take you to the wrong placeComing from the East, you will cross a toll bridge and in some cases go on a toll road. For the bridge, you pay at the booth. Our RV fit with no problem. For the toll roads, the State of Florida will send you a letter with your toll charges and payment instructions.
